Installing and configuring Java | ![]() |
If you are unable to view the drag and drop revision exercises the probable cause is that you don't have Java installed on your computer. Java is a free piece of software which is required in order for the exercises to run correctly
To download and install java, please follow these instructions;
1. Click Here to open the Java Download site.
2. Select 'Offline Installation' from the list and click on the Download button.
3. The following window will open - Click on the 'Run' button.
4. You will then see the download progress screen. This may appear for several minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection. If you receive a message at any point telling you that you already have the latest version of Java installed skip to step 7
5. After the file has completed downloading you may receive a second security alert asking you to confirm that you wish to install/run the file - agree to this by clicking on 'OK' or 'Run'.
6. You will then be guided through the installation process.
7. Once Java has finished insalling, open Internet explorer and select Internet Options' from the Tools menu at the top of the Internet Explorer window.
8. In the Internet Options window click on the Advanced tab towards the top right.
9. Scroll down the list displayed until you see 'Java (Sun)', about half way down. Ensure there is a tick in the box labelled 'Use JRE...'
10. Look below the 'Java (Sun)' entry. If you have an entry below that entitled 'Microsoft VM' make sure that none of the three boxes under the heading are ticked
11. Once the installation process is complete restart your PC and you will be able to access the SAM Learning revision exercises
